Parents need to make an application for a secondary school place in the autumn term of year 6 – the closing date for applications is midnight on 31st October. Applications can be made for up to six schools. The schools need to be ranked in order of preference. It is important parents find out as much as they can about each school, and check the admissions criteria carefully, to make sure their child has a chance of being offered a place. As our school is located near the border of Brent local authority, parents may want to look at Brent schools as well as those in Barnet.
As a school we can support parents by explaining the process and giving advice as to where to find out more about schools of interest. We liaise closely with our local secondary schools and provide handover information about our pupils in the summer term.
Pupils with Education and Health Care Plans – The process for children with EHCPs starts earlier and parents will receive separate letters from the local authority.
Children at Colindale School move onto a wide range of different secondary schools in Barnet and North London. Below is a list of schools many(but not all) of our children have moved on to in the recent past:
- Copthall School for Girls
- Hendon School
- Henrietta Barnett (selective girls school)
- Kingsbury High School
- London Academy
- Mill Hill County High School
- Oak Lodge Special School
- Queen Elizabeth’s Boys School (selective)
- Saracens High School
- St James’ Catholic High School
- St Mary’s & St John’s CE School
